News in the world of AI is a daily occurrence, but there are days when the news brings with it another leap in the world of artificial intelligence, and Google does this with its announcement of Gemini, the AI model with the strongest capabilities the company has had so far. Gemini comes in 3 models:
Gemini Ultra: the largest model with Google’s strongest capabilities for the most complex tasks
Gemini Pro: the best for a wide variety of tasks
Gemini Nano: efficient and the best for tasks on the device itself – Pixel 8 Pro will be the first to receive it
So what’s the big deal with Gemini?
While many companies have dedicated billions of dollars and thousands of employees to beat OpenAI’s GPT-4, none have come close yet. Google’s announcement changes that. Gemini Ultra is the first AI model to surpass GPT-4 in several key metrics.
Google claims that the performance of Gemini Ultra exceeds the most up-to-date results in 30 out of 32 common academic metrics, including:
Text, code, or data analysis and generation
Image understanding and creating new images
Video and audio analysis at a sufficient level to answer questions
Here is a video showcasing Gemini’s capabilities:
How does Gemini change artificial intelligence?
The release of Gemini shows that it is possible to compete with OpenAI’s GPT-4, something that was not clear until now. But with new models like Gemini, open-source models like Meta’s LLaMa, consumers and businesses can expect more and more capabilities and diverse options.
Google announced that Gemini Ultra will be released early next year. At this stage, Gemini Pro will lead the way. Other Google services will also be upgraded with the latest models soon. Pixel 8 Pro will be the first smartphone to receive Gemini Nano.
