Ubenwa has developed the first basic model for baby cries. Ubenwa’s AI interprets babies’ needs by analyzing the sound of their cries. In short, it translates AI to baby cry!
Charles Onu, the founder, began researching baby cries in Nigeria before moving to Montreal to pursue a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in machine learning. There, he met his partner, Samantha Lekwuwa, and Ubenwa was born.
Ubenwa started research in hospitals in Canada, Nigeria, and Brazil about four years ago, during which they collected thousands of cries and trained algorithms to identify and understand which cry belongs to which reason.
Based on this database, Ubenwa recently launched the Nanni AI app, which aims to translate the cries of your sweet baby for you.
Nanni AI is like Shazam for baby cries. When the baby cries, play the cry to the app for a few seconds, and it will tell you why the baby is crying and even offer calming suggestions.
Nanni AI is available for free on iOS and Android devices.
Since the app’s launch, Ubenwa’s database of baby cries has grown to millions of cries and is expanding with tens of thousands of cries per day. Along with the new cries, feedback from parents helps sharpen the algorithms of the app.
