Product and Competitor Research – A Practical Process for Immediate Implementation

Until recently, every time we were asked to conduct competitor research for a product or service, especially in the international market, we would start with joy, expose ourselves to a wealth of information, and try to learn everything possible within the limited time frame, fearing to lose any important moment, until moving on to the next stage.

So the task still requires delving into a lot of details, but we found that with a little help from chatGPT, Google bard, and Claude 2, we can automate much of the research work and create a more structured starting point. Ultimately, this is what AI is here to do, analyze large amounts of data.

So we started with what we expect to discover when analyzing a product or service:

  • New and interesting insights
  • Strengths and weaknesses
  • Existing opportunities for the product or service
  • Identifying the most painful points of customers regarding the product or service
  • Understanding different target audiences and their response to the product or service

Here comes the fun part, with the help of a set of prompts for your beloved chatbot, you can get wonderful insights without wasting a lot of time scanning and reading reviews across the web.

1. I want you to read all the reviews from this website page – (Paste the website address from which you want to read the reviews).

2. Based on the reviews, complete the following research task:
Present a list of identified strengths and explain each one.

3. Based on the reviews, complete the following research task:
Present a list of identified weaknesses and explain each one.

4. Based on the reviews, suggest improvement opportunities:
– Proposals for product improvement based on identified weaknesses.
– Potential opportunities for outperforming competitors.

5. To complete the research, analyze customer profiles:
– Present an analysis of the different customer segments that evaluated the product.
– Customer preferences according to the customer segment.
– Conclusions and recommendations for the product according to each customer segment.
