Conducting market research, gathering and documenting requirements, product QA, monitoring and analyzing product metrics, product launch, collecting customer feedback, and more – as product managers, you are likely familiar with all of these. With the rise of AI and especially ChatGPT, we decided to explore if ChatGPT can assist product managers in their day-to-day management. Here are some examples of solutions that can save you some time every day:
#1 Competitor Research
Time saved: (at least) 45 minutes
Before starting, it’s worth seeing what the competitors are doing. Who else provides a similar product and what are their strengths and weaknesses so you can provide added value that the target audience needs.
Please provide a list of the top 10 competitors in the market that offer a solution similar to [describe what your product does]. For each competitor, include their strengths and weaknesses.
#2 Naming
Time saved: 20 minutes
Every product needs a good name – or at least a temporary one. Usually, you’ll think a bit, browse the internet for inspiration, ask friends and colleagues. A simple task, but if you think about it for a moment, you’ve invested about 30 enjoyable minutes. ChatGPT is a great partner for this stage. Here’s a prompt for you:
I am a product manager for a [product name]. The main feature allows [write the problem your product solves]. Provide me with a list of 10 possible names for this product.
#3 Writing FAQs
Time saved: 10 minutes
One of the important things to provide customers with when launching a product to overcome abandonment due to lack of understanding is a short list of frequently asked questions. You can tell ChatGPT about the unique points of the product and ask it to write challenging questions:
I am preparing to launch a new product [write the problem your product solves]. I would like to create a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section for our users. What are the most frequently asked questions for similar products?
#4 Writing an Internal Release Note
Time saved: 10 minutes
So the beta version is ready, and you want to release it for internal review and feedback. Let ChatGPT help:
I am a product manager working on a product that solves a [write the problem your product solves]. Could you please assist me in drafting an internal release note for our company? I would like to inform my colleagues about the new product and request detailed feedback that will help me improve it.
These are 4 examples of how ChatGPT can help. ChatGPT can of course assist in many more steps, and the more specific you make the prompt you submit to it, the better it will learn the product and you can derive even more. Ultimately, once you get used to working with it as part of the daily routine, you can save 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there, and ultimately a few hours a week.
